Firstly, welcome to Coffs Harbour Judo Club, we hope you enjoy training with us, here are a few things you may want to know ...... Judo on the North Coast. Our next nearest Judo Club is at Taylor's Arm (1 hour 20 minutes away), it is run by Syd and Dawn, every couple of months we try to have a interclub practice session on a weekend at alternating venues. We also make it a social occasion by having a bar-be-que. A $3 donation would be appreciated and volunteers to run the bar-be-que are always welcome. Lismore PCYC Judo Club (1 hour and 30 minutes away) is run by Alan Foley, he holds a competition every year in mid November which we attend, there will also be a Special Needs Competition held on the same day. When we travel to other clubs we do have the use of the PCYC minibus if we book it in advance. It would be helpful to know as soon as possible when there is an upcoming event if you wish to attend. The cost of fuel is divided up amounst all passengers, we do need a volunteer to organise transport. Membership of the NSW JFA. To practice Judo in NSW you must be a member of the NSW Judo Fereration of Australia. You may start judo using a Temporary Membership but if you wish to keep practising you must become a full member. Competitions. There's the Lismore competition in November and the Hunter Valley Open in Newcastle in mid February. If any competitors win medals in both of these competitions they can go to Homebush and compete in the State Titles. If they win a medal in the State Titles they can fight in the National Championship, they must also do additional training and go to the State Camp. Gradings. You need to be a mininum of an Orange belt to compete in competitions. We hold gradings four times a year in early February, April, July and October. All the information you need for gradings is on this website, we would however suggest purchasing a Grading Manual.
